In Michigan, everyone who is convicted of criminal sexual conduct (CSC) is listed on the sex offender registry. This rule does not allow for any exceptions. Additionally, the registry does not differentiate between more serious and less serious sex crimes.

This means that someone who is convicted of 4th degree criminal sexual conduct is treated the same on the registry as someone convicted of 1st degree criminal sexual conduct. Their pasts are equally exposed to the public's eye and the stigma of their criminal convictions haunts them both with equal persistence.

At the Schwartz Law Firm, we work to do whatever is possible to prevent a conviction for criminal sexual conduct and to keep our clients' names off the sex offender registry.

I stand accused - how can Schwartz Law Firm fight for me?

Because sex crimes tend to happen in private settings, it's quite often the case that no one but the accuser and accused actually witnessed the alleged assault. In the absence of any other corroborating physical evidence, the jury may have nothing on which to base their decision except for the testimony of the accused.

In these instances, it becomes an important question to determine whether or not the accuser is trustworthy. If he or she has a history of telling lies, or has a personal motive to slander the accused, then it becomes doubtful as to whether or not the accusations of criminal sexual conduct are truthful. That testimony is often not enough to prove the accusation in the way that satisfies the standard of "beyond a reasonable doubt."

If you have been charged with criminal sexual conduct, act immediately to find a sex crimes and rape defense lawyer. Call 1-888-757-1681 or contact our firm online for a free initial consultation with a lawyer at the Schwartz Law Firm
