Michigan Adoption Day particularly special for one family this year

Every family is unique. Different dynamics and situations create family units that are sometimes a far cry from what people would call a traditional family. Adoption is one of the special opportunities that creates these unique families and new, happier homes.

One Michigan family feels blessed after the recent adoption of two girls, ages 8 and 12. Interestingly enough, it was the girls' aunt who adopted them. The ceremony took place on Nov. 20, Michigan Adoption Day. The girls were excited to finally call their aunt "mom."

The aunt took care of the girls for a few months prior to the adoption. She knows that being a single mom will have its challenges, but she is excited to have the opportunity to care for her nieces. She also knows that she is helping her sister, the mother of the two children.

The girls' mom agreed to the adoption following a drug raid at their home earlier this year granting them the opportunity to live in a happy, safe home. The two girls will be joining their aunt's other three biological children, ages 18, 17 and 13.

As part of Michigan Adoption Day, a state representative congratulated the new family. The Chief Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court was also present, along with a judge from Saginaw County Circuit Court Juvenile Division.

Luckily, the girls' mother in this situation agreed to send the girls to a healthier home environment, but not all family law issues go so smoothly. Emotions can run high and can create anxiety and fear, especially when it comes to parents and their children. An experienced family law attorney may be able to lessen the tension of these situations by providing important legal advice and ensuring that the rights of all parties are fairly represented.
