Singer and actress Hilary Duff is speaking out about filing for divorce from her husband Mike Comrie back in February of this year. She is citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the couple's decision to split. Her husband originally hails from Canada and is a retired National Hockey League player. He once attended the University of Michigan where he was voted rookie of the year for the 1998-1999 season.
Although Hilary Duff legally separated from her husband, back in January 2013, the couple did not actually announce their separation until January 2014. The media did begin speculating about chances for reconciliation later during that year, however, after it was reported that Comrie had been involved in a wild night out partying with friends. Still, others speculated that there might be a reconciliation in the works around October when the couple was seen holding hands during a Halloween Party they both attended.
While Duff has reportedly asked for custody of the couple's son, she stated during an interview that the couple still believes that they need to retain a strong relationship for their son despite their separation and impending divorce. They have remained close during this time, even taking a family vacation together in Hawaii last year.
Divorce is never easy and can be a trying, emotional time. Individuals who are thinking of seeking a divorce or involved in child custody issues may have valuable rights that should be protected. It could be beneficial to learn more about these processes by speaking with an experienced divorce or family law attorney.
