Rich or poor, young or old, ending a marriage can be a stressful time for any person. And there are certain unavoidable decisions that Michigan couples need to make while they are in the process of a divorce that can affect them for the rest of their lives.
One couple that has recently announced their impending divorce is Mike Modano and Willa Ford. Modano had a 22 year career in the National Hockey League. He holds the record for the most career goals scored among American-born players. His hockey career ended after a season- long stint with the Detroit Red Wings in 2010-2011.
Ford is an actress and singer. She is known for her roles on television, including The Anna Nicole Smith Story, and for her time on Dancing with the Stars, among other things.
The couple started dating in 2002. After four years together, they got engaged in 2006 and were married the next year. On August 7, the couple announced that after five years of marriage they would be seeking a divorce.
Now that Modano and Ford have made the decision to divorce, they will need to make all of the decisions that accompany the divorce process. If the couple has a prenuptial agreement then they will divide their property according to the terms of the agreement.
A prenuptial agreement can specify many things, such as how non-marital property will be divided, whether or not either party gets alimony and how to divide any marital assets. If Modano and Ford do not have a prenuptial agreement then these same decisions need to be made, but it could take longer to reach a resolution.
