It’s a Great Time to Start a Tech Business in Detroit

It’s a great time to start a business in Detroit. Factors such as a climate of innovation, a vibrant support network for entrepreneurs, and access to capital make now as good a time as ever to pursue your dream of starting a business.

But it’s an exceptionally good time to start a TECH company in Detroit.

Nothing has cemented this more than the announcement in February that Microsoft will move from the suburbs into downtown and the possibility that Amazon will built their new HQ2 in Detroit. Dan Gilbert said that Detroit was “at the intersection of muscle and brains” and would become a world capitol of technology within 10 to 15 years.

So, Why Detroit?

Detroit has 50 percent more venture-backed startups than it did only three years ago, according to a study from the Michigan Venture Capital Association (MVCA). As startups become more entwined in the city’s culture, more entrepreneurs will be willing to take advantage of what Detroit has to offer.

According to Tech Crunch, those offerings include cheap office space due to downtown’s large footprint and vacant space, and plentiful talent due to the city’s proximity to prestigious universities and established corporations.

Ready to Take the Next Step

Creating a successful tech startup has a lot in common with starting any successful business: preparation is key. Once you have an idea, the space, and the capital, you need to make sure to dot your i’s and cross your t’s.

When it comes to the legal issues associated with starting and operating a business, what you don’t know can and will hurt you. Partnering with a knowledgeable business lawyer is just as important as finding the right accountant.  Having both in place can go a long way to making sure your dream of joining the fabric of Detroit’s tech scene isn’t unraveled.
